Plain English. No legal jargon. Last updated May 2026.

What we collect

If you sign up for email alerts, we store your email address and, optionally, a region of interest you enter yourself (for example, “Southwest US”). We also store the date you signed up and the consent text you agreed to. That’s it.

We do not collect names, phone numbers, location data, or any information beyond what you enter in the signup form.

Why we collect it

Your email address is used only to send you source-cited hantavirus awareness updates. We only send emails when a verified public health update is added to the site. We do not send marketing emails, newsletters, or third-party content.

Unsubscribing

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it removes you immediately — no confirmation required, no account needed.

You can also unsubscribe directly at checkhantavirus.com/alerts/unsubscribe using the token from any email we sent you.

After unsubscribing, your record is marked as unsubscribed and you will receive no further emails. We do not delete the record entirely because we need to know not to re-subscribe you automatically if the same address is submitted again.

We do not sell or share your data

Your email address is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party for marketing purposes. It is stored in our database (Supabase) and used only by our email sending service (Resend) to deliver the alerts you requested.

Services we use

  • Supabase — stores your email address and subscription record securely.
  • Resend — delivers alert emails on our behalf. Your address is passed to Resend only at the moment an email is sent.
  • Vercel — hosts this site. Standard server logs may include IP addresses and request metadata.

Not medical advice

CheckHantaVirus.com is a public awareness tracker, not a medical service. Alerts contain source-cited public health information only. Nothing on this site or in our emails constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment guidance. For health emergencies, contact your local health department or call 911.

Independence

This site is an independent project and is not affiliated with the CDC, WHO, or any government agency. We are not a healthcare organization.

Questions

This is a small independent project. If you have questions about your data or want your record deleted entirely, the simplest path is to unsubscribe using the link in any email. For anything else, you can reach us at the contact shown on the site.

This page is a plain-English summary, not a formal legal privacy policy. We are a small independent awareness project, not a commercial data processor.
